Maalem is a geo-informed, multi-specialized contracting company based in KSA.
We are a niche player specialized in establishing land administration and 3-D cadastral systems, spatial data infrastructure, geospatial technologies, and satellite imagery processing for advanced earth observation projects, and vast experience in delivering large scale projects providing technological and scientific assessment in planning, management, and delivery of projects.
The company has formalised multi-disciplined partnerships with world-leading organisations to enable the delivery of large-scale, complex programs in KSA and the wider GCC region. Our extensive network of global alliances ensures we can deliver our clients’ requirements on time, with quality, in a cost-effective manner and a safe and sustainable environment.
Formally established in 2022, Maalem evolved out of Geographical Information Systems-SA, which was established in the Kingdom the 1990s.

Our Story
Maalem's roots trace back to the post-1992, where a pressing need for aerial photography and mapping updates along Saudi Arabia's border regions arose. GIS-SA was established by Reda Ghazzawi and Doug McBride, focusing on these requirements. Over the years, they secured government contracts under a UK-Saudi Arabia umbrella arrangement administered by the UK-MOD and BAE Systems. GIS-SA set up a support operation near Heathrow Airport and established entities like GIS-SA, SpatialOne, and Summit Geoservices to support technology integration.
One significant milestone was the Tornado Geographical Support Facilities program,involving technology transfer and real-time flying. Another key initiative in the 2000s involved collaborating with various international organizations on land administration and cadastral systems. Recently, Maalem emerged as the in-Kingdom entity, combining expertise from LEI, Geospatial Frameworks, NGIS, Innola Solutions, and GAF-AG. This dynamic consortium continues to build upon GIS-SA's legacy from three decades ago.
